Spirulina is a blue green algae, and has the particular smell of algae in a pond. Some horses object to the smell to start. If you add a small amount to their bucket, then gradually increase the amount, the horses adapt to the smell of their food. Some people also sprinkle a small amount around the horse's stall, just so they get used to the smell. Once the horse is used to the smell, most horses will consume their bucket with gusto.
