My Best Horse magnesium glycinate is magnesium chelated to the amino acid glycine. This is suitable for supplementing horses which have iron overload.
The majority of magnesium in the horse’s body is located in the bones and muscle. It plays a role in electrolyte balance within the body.
As a cofactor, it affects enzyme reactions, such as:
- Kinase B
- Hexokinase
- Creatine kinase
- ATPase
- NA+/K+ ATPase
Other areas in which it plays a role:
- Membrane function
- Cell adhesion
- Muscle contraction/relaxation
- Neurotransmitter release
- Structural function of the mitochondria
Magnesium plays a role in over 300 different reactions in the body and is commonly used as a calming supplement. However, additional research is needed to determine the validity of this usage, as well as efficacy.

Suggested serving size: This product is approximately 22% elemental magnesium. 5 tablespoons per day gives about 10 grams of elemental magnesium.
Density: Approximately 9 grams magnesium glycinate per level US tablespoon. This yields approximately 2 grams of elemental magnesium per tablespoon.
