Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is known in veterinary medicine as the "universal antioxidant," ALA is unique because it is both water- and fat-soluble. This allows it to travel anywhere in the body to protect cells from oxidative stress. But what does this mean for your horse?

For Performance Horses ALA is an important component for muscle recovery. Intense exercise creates free radicals that damage tissue and cause soreness. ALA directly neutralizes these harmful molecules, recycles other essential antioxidants like Vitamins C and E, and acts as an essential cofactor in the creation of cellular energy. For the owner, this translates to better stamina, less post-workout stiffness, and a reduced risk of tying-up.

For Metabolic Horses ALA is equally valuable for easy-keepers or horses managing Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).
