Methionine is an essential amino acid, in that the horse cannot manufacture it from other things. Frequently found in hoof and coat supplements, it is also important in muscle functioning.
This product is D,L methionine, which means that 50% of the methionine is the D form and 50% is the L form. The L form is the biologically active form.
Serving size
Suggested serving size: Recommended amount is 3 grams per day, or at the advice of your veterinarian. If you are supplementing more than 10 grams of lysine per day, then the methionine should be 1/3 the lysine amount.
Density: Approximately 3 grams per US teaspoon. This gives about 1 1/2 grams of L-methionine per US teaspoon. To reach the recommended amount of 3 grams per day, you would need to feed about 2 teaspoons.
