My Best Horse magnesium oxide is ultra-pure and low in iron, with only about 10-20 mg of iron per 10 gram serving of magnesium oxide. This is suitable for supplementing horses which have iron overload.
A white powder, magnesium oxide is readily absorbed in horses.
The majority of magnesium in the horse’s body is located in the bones and muscle. It plays a role in electrolyte balance within the body.
As a cofactor, it affects enzyme reactions, such as:
- Kinase B
- Hexokinase
- Creatine kinase
- ATPase
- NA+/K+ ATPase
Other areas in which it plays a role:
- Membrane function
- Cell adhesion
- Muscle contraction/relaxation
- Neurotransmitter release
- Structural function of the mitochondria
Magnesium plays a role in over 300 different reactions in the body and is commonly used as a calming supplement. However, additional research is needed to determine the validity of this usage, as well as efficacy.

Serving size
Suggested serving size: Recommended amount is 10-20 grams per day of elemental magnesium, or at the advice of your veterinarian. This product is 59.4% elemental magnesium. To achieve 9 grams of elemental magnesium, you would need to feed 15 grams of MagOx Elite (about 3 level tablespoons). To achieve 18 grams of elemental magnesium, you would need to feed 30 grams of MagOx Elite.
Density: Approximately 5 grams magnesium oxide per US tablespoon.
