Jiaogulan is frequently recommended for horses with foot pain. This adaptogen preferentially promotes healing of the nitric oxide precursors and away from the inflammatory pathways.
This bulk jiaogulan powder is available in the convenient 1 lb and 4 lb sizes.
Dr. Kellon was an invited speaker at the Equine Congress and presented on the use of jiaogulan in horses. We give her credit for bringing to light this useful equine supplement.

Dosing is done to effect. Before you start using it, note the color of the gums. Use 1-2 teaspoons twice per day. Increase the amount by 1/2 teaspoon every 3-4 days until you see the gums get pinker. When the gums get pinker you know that you're at the correct dose.
It is recommended to feed 20 minutes before a meal, or two hours afterwards. This is so that the jiaogulan doesn't get stuck to the other foods. If you have to feed it with the meal, increase the amount by 50%.
If you are unable to observe your horse to see when the gums get pinker, a good suggestion is 1-2 tablespoons once or twice a day.
