My Best Horse magnesium oxide is ultra-pure and low in iron,
with only about 12 mg of iron per 10
gram serving. This is suitable for supplementing horses which have iron
overload.
A white powder, magnesium oxide is readily absorbed in
horses.
The majority of magnesium in the horse’s body is located in
the bones and muscle. It plays a role in electrolyte balance within the body.
As a cofactor, it affects enzyme reactions, such as:
· Kinase B· Hexokinase· Creatine kinase· ATPase· Na+/K+ ATPase
Other areas in which it plays a role:
· Membrane function· Cell adhesion· Muscle contraction/relaxation· Neurotransmitter release· Structural function of the mitochondria
Magnesium plays a role in over 300 different reactions in
the body and is commonly used as a calming supplement. However, additional
research is needed to determine the validity of this usage, as well as efficacy.
Care should be taken, upon supplementation, to keep the
Ca:Mg ratio at about 2:1.
