Chondroitin Sulfate
Amount:
The amount of chondroitin sulfate varies, depending upon if you are using it as a joint supplement, in conjunction with other supplements, or if you are using it in for horses with skin issues.
As a joint supplement, 6 grams per day, or at the advice of your veterinarian.
For horses with allergy issues, Dr. Kellon recommended spirulina (2 oz) and chondroitin sulfate of 5-10 grams - both twice per day (Kellon, 'Get Allergy Control', Horse Journal, June 2011).
Description:
Chondroitin sulfate has been a mainstay for supplementation for equine arthritis for many years. It is commonly paired with other supplements, such as glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, Mov-Ease, MSM, ASU, or turmeric.
Chondroitin sulfate has also been used for the nutritional support of allergic reactions when paired with spirulina.
My Best Horse offers the USP grade of chondroitin sulfate, as well as the more affordable feed grade.
Density:
4 grams is about 1 teaspoon.
